Billingford Mill

Overview

Billingford Mill, near Diss in Norfolk, is a beautifully restored five-storey tower windmill and a striking reminder of the county’s milling heritage. Built in 1860 to replace an earlier post mill destroyed in a storm, it was the last wind-powered mill to operate commercially in Norfolk, working until 1956. Featuring a Norfolk boat-shaped cap, four patent sails, and a six-bladed fantail, the mill retains much of its original machinery, including millstones and gearing. Now cared for by the Norfolk Windmills Trust, Billingford Mill offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into traditional milling and rural history, with regular open days and guided tours.
